Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Wednesday March 7, 2012 tendered her resignation to Governor BL Joshi after facing a rout in the assembly elections.
Mayawati, apparently to avoid waiting news persons, chose to arrive from the back door of the Raj Bhawan.
The Mulayam Singh Yadav-led party captured 224 seats in the 403-member Uttar Pradesh Assembly, routing the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress-Rashtriya Lok Dal Alliance.
BSP won 80 seats, BJP 47, Congress 28 and other independent candidates 24.
