Vidya Balan''s next a comedy with Emraan

After bold roles in Ishqiya (2010) and her recent superhit, The Dirty Picture (2011), you can’t accuse Vidya Balan of staying within her comfort zone. Now, the actor will show off her quirky side opposite Emraan Hashmi in the upcoming comedy film, Ghanchakkar.

Siddharth Roy Kapur, CEO, UTV Motion Pictures confirming the news, says, “Ghanchakkar is our third film in a row with writer-director Raj Kumar Gupta. The lead roles were virtually written for Emraan and Vidya, so we have managed to get our dream cast."

Ask about to take up a comedy film after a string of brave performances, and she says, “Comedy is one thing that I’ve wanted to do for a long time. As an actor, all you want to do is reach out to the audience with diverse, yet entertaining, roles. Also, the story, director and co-actors play a critical role ifor me while selecting a film,” says Vidya Balan.

‘Shootout At Wadala was not something I wanted to do’
Vidya Balan admits she refused to be a part of director Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala because there was little scope for her to show off her acting skills. “In Shootout At Wadala, there was nothing much for me to do. They wanted to start it in November. I couldn’t do it at that time, as I had just finished The Dirty Picture and was busy promoting it,” says Vidya Balan.

Though Sanjay wrote the character keeping Vidya in mind, he has now roped in actor Kangana Ranaut to play the female lead opposite John Abraham. “I am sure it will be a good film, and whoever does it will do justice to the role. With no disrespect to anyone, this was not something I wanted to do,” says Vidya.
