The Owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) Shahrukh Khan in the T20 league IPL, now co-own the "i1 Super Series" Mumbai Team. The upcoming new motorsport racing league "i1 Super Series", event organizer Machdar Motorsports said on Friday November 4, 2011, The first team for the new i1 Super Series will be owned by Shahrukh Khan and Jai Mehta.
The new i1 Super Series is scheduled to start in January, 2012. Machdar Motorsports will announce other teams and their owners next week. The other teams may be Bangalore, Hyderabad, Delhi, Darshan etc.
Machdar Motorsports is a private entity and it will pay back 60% of the revenue earned from the i1 Super Series to the respective team owners.
The company is also looking for Chennai, Kolkata, Pune, Ahemadabad, Chandigarh etc., other than Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore and Hyderabad. i1 Super Series, charted on the popular city based franchisee format and it will have 8 - 9 teams and each team will have an International driver and an Indian driver per car.
Machdar Motorsports will spend around $5 million to promote the series on marketing and advertising across media. "Promotional campaign for the league should begin in the middle of this month", said by Darshan. Teams will compete for a $2 million prize.
